Suggest Treatment For Fibroid Cyst And Heavy Vaginal Bleeding

My best friend turned 50 in March. She has been having heavy bleeding and pain for almost a year. She went last week for blood work and had an ultra sound that showed fibroid cyst. I have been with her to every dr visit and she won t let anyone else go with her. Today we went for a consult to set up for a hysterectomy and cancer has now been brought up. Could the ultra sound have shown anything to cause this new turn? What are her chances of survival if it is uterine cancer?

Hi I think at this age, bleeding itself suggests a chance of cancer. On ultrasound, if endometrial thickness is more than 4 mm, she can go for an endometrial biopsy to rule out any endometrial pathology. Endometrial cancer has a good prognosis. 5 year survival rate is 80 percent. Talk to your doctor regarding endometrial biopsy. Hope it helps.
