Suggest Treatment For Fever, Night Sweats And Cold

Hi, I am a 27 year old female, generally healthy. I have had an enlarged cervical lymph node for approximately 6 weeks now. It is moveable, not hard but not soft and squishy either. It is about 1 cm. I noticed it about a week before coming down with a nasty cold, but other than that no other medical issues going on. No fevers, night sweats. I did have labs drawn including a CBC, CMP, LDH, sed rate, mono, lymes. Everything has come back normal. My question is, do you think it is safe to continue to monitor, or should this be addressed by a specialist? I work in a pediatric office and have been driving me colleagues crazy with this, and each of them tells me not to worry. I have extreme health anxiety and constantly worry about lymphoma. Thanks in advance!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

First of all be relaxed. You don't have a serious problem.

Enlarged cervical lymph nodes for more than 6 weeks definitely needs treatment. If it is due to inflammation then a course of antibiotics will help.

Even after a course of antibiotics if cervical lymph nodes are enlarged in size then you need to for further tests. One investigation which you might have missed is thyroid function tests. If possible get it done.

Yes, you need to be examined by an ENT specialist as your symptoms duration is more than 6 weeks.

Hope this helps.

If you have any other queries, feel free to ask.

Regards,
Dr.Prathap Kumar
