Suggest Treatment For Fever , Cough And Meningitis

My husband was in Mexico and developed a cough and stiff neck but no headache. I also believe he had a fever. When he got off the plane his legs were so weak he had trouble walking. His temperature was 102 when he arrived home. After drinking lots of water and taking ASA, his temperature went down to 99.6. Today he feels much better and is beginning to cough up secretions, legs are strong but temp did go back up to 102. My question is: could this have been a type of meningitis, some kind of virus or what?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
Meningitis is less likely because of absence of headache.
Possibility of viral Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is more.
Viral fever often causes weakness, lethargy, low energy etc. So weakness in lower limb is mostly due to viral infection.
Usually viral infections are self limiting in 1-2 weeks time.
So ask him to drink plenty of fluids orally and keep himself hydrated. Take antihistamine and anti inflammatory drugs for cough.
Don't worry, he will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
