My 5 year old daughter has a swollen, erythematous area on the inside of her thigh. It s warm to the touch and she says it itches. She had water day at summer camp yesterday and noticed it early that evening. I can see a small spot that appears to be the point of entry for whatever has caused this. I m applying a heating pad to increase circulation now. I m thinking infected hair follicle or bug bite? What do you think?
I have reviewed your posting and will share my experience based upon dealing with this problem in good number of cases.
It seems to be an insect bite as she might have remained exposed for sometime while at the camp. The first thing that you need to do is to stop heating pad use as this can prove counter-productive You can instead apply some cream containing a steroid and antibiotic like Flutibact which has helped similar patients. Most of my patients have also benefited from use of Anti allergic medication since that helps reduce itching drastically. If your daughter can swallow the tablet, then Cetirizine 5 mg would be good for her on daily basis till itching persists. This regime will help her immensely.
Best wishes
