Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Liver And Abdominal Pain In A Child
My 9 year old has been having abdominal pain for over a month, they can t figure it out. They said his liver is enlarged 16 cm in size and he is only 9. His lymph nodes area are above 2 cm in size and have been for over a month. The inflammation has caused intestinal intussecpition which released them selves four different time with the pressure put on them from the ultrasound tech. He isn t getting better and they keep running test and test and everything comes back normal accept hi platelets have been increasing from 326 to 495 in a week. This is a child who is hyperactive an plays competive travel basketball that has been too weak to play in over a month and stays inside and hasn t been to school. They have done multiple ultrasounds, a upper GI and some xrays but keep putting off a MRI or CT scan. Do you have any ideas.

At the age of 9 years liver enlargement could be because of a number of reasons top of which is glycogen storage diseases, Wilson disease, hepatitis B or C infection. And along with lymph node enlargement it is pointing at some sinister problem. Such patients need thorough investigations and expert opinion. My advice will be to keep calm and do not be bothered by multiple investigations, your child needs it, it is for his benefit. With personally seeing the patient in this case will be hard to say anything about the actual problem.
