Suggest Treatment For Enlarged Artery In Heart

I was just told my 10-year-old daughter has an enlarged artery in her heart and will see a pediatric cardiologist this Friday. This was according to a chest x-ray she had over the weekend in the ER. Are there any questions I should ask the Dr. I would like some information on this condition so I will be better prepared for the visit.

Cardiologist 's  Response

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that chest X ray study may reveal an aortic or pulmonary artery enlargement. These findings may be seen in some congenital heart diseases.

The best way to clarify these issues is to perform a cardiac ultrasound.

If such an enlargement is confirmed, then additional imagine tests may be required, such as agio CT. angio MRI, or sometimes even angiography.

Nevertheless, the diagnostic work up will depend on echo results and the conclusions of the overall medical examination.

You have to discuss with the pediatrician (cardiologist), if any congenital heart diseases is present, and if such is the case, to define the optimal diagnostic and follow up schedule.

Hope to have been helpful.

If you have additional uncertainties after cardiologist visit, feel free to ask me whenever you need. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
