Suggest Treatment For Elevated Bilirubin And Abdominal Distension
Hello sir , my father is admitted for jaundice. His bilirubin level was initially 4 and in a span of approx 15 days has increased to 22 which is progressive. He has water retention in stomach cavity. Endoscopy has come clear. Request your guidance and opinion. Thanks nikhil
Hi there, Thanks for using HCM. Your father is probably having a chronic liver disease which got decompensated leading to fluid retention in the body.
He needs in patient treatment during the initial phase. Some of the causes include alcohol intake for a long time, hepatitis B and C infection. He needs to quit alcohol if he has been consuming it. He needs to get tested for Hepatitis B and C infection. His fluid accumulation in the abdomen called ascites has to be aspirated and examined to rule out infection and other causes of ascites. His kidney function should be tested to see whether kidneys are functioning well. He needs to restrict salt in his diet and take diuretic medications which will clear the excess fluid through kidneys. Take him to a hospital for this early phase treatment.
