Suggest Treatment For Dyspnea, With History Of Lung Collapse And Hypercholestremia

I had phmonia about 6 months ago and also lung collapsed and was drained of fluid on the lung. I still suffer from shortness of breath that I never had before. Should I be concerned? Also I have high cholesterol and could not take Lipitor. These may be two different problems but am concerned about shortness of breath. I quit the Lipitor because of side effects and have not been back to dr.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, both of these can cause shortness of breath.
You had collapsed lung due to pleural fluid which was not drained fully. So recurrent collection of fluid can also cause breathlessness at present.
High cholesterol can actually block coronary arteries and cause heart failure. This can also cause breathlessness.
So we should rule out each of them in your case.
So get
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system and chest x ray to rule out collection of fluid.
2. Ecg, 2d echo, stress test (trade mill test) and coronary angiography (if required) to rule out heart failure.
Treatment of both of these are different. So first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
