Suggest Treatment For Dry Patches On The Knuckles

I have had dry patches on the middle finger knuckle of both hands for many years, now. I have tried to soften this condition with lotions and I have even taken an emery board to try to file down the rough scaly skin. I am sure this is an indication of something in the body that needs medical attention. Do you know what condition this may be indicative of?

The condition that you have mentioned is present in many normal individuals too. Rubbing with emery board is unlikely to help in this case. You better start keeping the affected area well lubricated with moisturizer or humectant. If it is severe please use salicylic acid containing preparations for some days to a couple of weeks but do not use them for a very long period. If you have developed it as a result of friction to the area repeatedly, then please avoid doing so in future so that the problem does not recur.
