Suggest Treatment For Dizziness , Stomach Cramps And Severe Nausea

I had sushi today for lunch. While i was eating I started feeling nauseous and thought I just had a stomach cramp. Within 2 minutes I started having trouble swallowing, and it s still difficult to breathe. I got really dizzy and started falling but caught myself on a wall, then I went to the office (I was at school) and sat on a chair waiting to be picked up. Then my arms started to burn and sting and there was shooting pain through them. I started having a hard time seeing and i felt nauseous. My chest started to hurt insanely and I started to cry because of the pain. The principal wanted to call an anbance and called my dad to tell him, but my dad said he was already close and he came and got me. By then around 10 minutes had passed since I ate. When I got in the car I wasn t able to breath and my throat and chest hurt. I didn t want to wait in emerg and find out it was just random, so we came home and I am in bed trying to breath and stay awake to write this. What do you think happened? Is it worth going to emergency for?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I noted the history of eating sushi, having nausea, cramps, trouble swallowing and difficult to breath. You got dizzy, arms started to burn, had chest pain, started crying and was taken to Emergency Room. All these symptoms are so varied and yet not definite. Things told at ER indicate that these might have been due to panic attack if all the relevant investigations of blood, urine, stool, X-ray and EKG are normal.

If there if an evidence of infection, better to get a review by your doctor and get started on proper treatment. If its panic attack, get treatment accordingly. Also specifically get thyroid functions and MRI of the brain along with ultrasound of the brain. Do not worry, it may not be serious if you are young, should have been just anxiety and/stress factor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
