Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having another bout of diverticulitis, and I know about the lots of fiber rule. I feel that I eat a lot of fiber. My question is is there anything I can do or something I can take to help my colon and intestines to strengthen it and I can avoid this antibiotic that I am having to take......feels like a poison I am taking. Thank you YYYY@YYYY
Dear- thanks for using our system and understand your medical concern. The most important fact in diverticulosis is to avoid food with small seeds ,like corn, peanut and nuts. If you have diverticulosis , you might develop diverticulitis when eat seeds that will accumulate inside of the diverticuli and create an inflammation and infection of it. That is why you need antibiotics, because it is the only way to cure the infection. However, if you avoid the seeds in your diet, eat more fiber and drink at least 32 onz of water daily, your probability of another diverticulitis's attack is lower. I hope that my advise has been helpful Dr.Sara
