Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Abdominal Discomfort
Last Friday after passing stool, had fresh blood in toilet which continued bleeding for several minutes. No blood since, but had the three days of loose stools, no associated pain. Today have had three episodes of explosive diarrhoea and abdominal discomfort. No bleeding.
Loose stools associated with blood is suggestive of dysentery. Dysentery is caused by gastrointestinal tract infection with certain infectious agents. Explosive diarrhea is characterized by passage of large amounts of water and flatulence. Explosive diarrhea can occur due to acute exaggeration of chronic diarrhea.
I suggest you to get a routine stool examination to look for evidence of infection. In case there is evidence of infection, an antimicrobial will be required to clear the infection. Some infections are self limiting like viral infections. They require symptomatic treatment only.
You may consult your primary health care provider for clinical assessment, prescription of investigations, and thus management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shailja Puri
