Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea

a few weeks ago I had an episode where I had really bad tummy pains followed by diarrohea. I then didn t have a bowel movement for nearly 4 days, then everything was fairly normal. Yesterday I had a normal movement followed 20 mins later by loose and watery movement. I now feel nauseous with a little discomfort in tummy and lower back. I have been told by my GP that I am slightly anaemic although I give blood regularly. Do I need to be concerned?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of bad tummy pains followed by diarrhea, then no bowel movement for nearly 4 days - then everything was fairly normal. but yesterday had normal movement followed by loose watery stools after 20 minutes, nausea with little discomfort in tummy and lower back, slightly anemic...
As per the history you have provided the alternating diarrhea and constipation indicates intestinal re-infection and may be related to malignancy.
I would advise you the following:
Get the stool tested for three consecutive days.
Tests of blood for CBC, renal and liver functions also for any enteric fever and as decided by clinical evaluation.
Ultrasonography of the whole abdomen.
A course of an antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotics, multivitamins and activated charcoal should solve your present problems if of a short duration.
If the problem recurs then you will have to go for an opinion of a Gastroenterologist and colonoscopy, CT scan of the abdomen to rule out any sinister problem and further treatment as per the new findings.
