Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello ,

Diabetic retinopathy can cause visual loss in the later stages which can become irreversible. Thus it is important to keep the blood sugars within normal limits always so as to control the diabetic retinopathy. At a later stage if the vision is threatened then laser photocoagulation can be done to prevent visual loss. Talk to your ophthalmologist for the stage of your diabetic retinopathy and follow up with him/her annually for a dilated eye exam. Keeping blood sugars within normal limits is the main key for prevention of visual loss.
