Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

I do appreciate your concern regarding your mother's concern. You mother seem to be suffering from recurrent depressive disorder where depressive disorder occurs again and again.

You should seek a psychiatric consultation for her. She would need treatment with anti-depressants. Since she has had multiple episodes, it is recommended that she continues the treatment even after recovering completely. Even life long prophylaxis with anti-depressants can be considered. With adequate management, she can remain symptom free the rest oh her life.

Hope this information was helpful. Best wishes.
