Suggest Treatment For Decreased Libido In A Male

my partner (who is a 35year old male) recently (about 4 weeks ago) stopped taking citalopram as he was finding it hard to ejaculate and the sex was way to long for me. But now he has the opposite problem, he has no libido whatsoever and it doesnt seem to be coming back over time. very frustrating

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello, welcome to health care magic. I am Dr Alok Sinha, MD Psychiatry from India. I will try my best to answer your query.

Citalopram is a medicine which is used for treating depression. This medicine is known to produce delayed ejaculation.

As you told, your husband was on this medication, so apparently he was having depression earlier, and till this time he was maintaining remission on medicine.

If antidepressant medicine is discontinued suddenly, there is chance of relapse of depressive illness. Apparently this has happened with your husband. He might have developed depressive symptoms in the form of sadness of mood, preference for solitude, reduced pleasure in pleasurable activities (like sex) which he used to enjoy earlier and reduced libido.

I suggest you to visit your husband's treating psychiatrist along with your husband. The doctor may evaluate him and may prescribe another group of ant-depressant medication with no/little sexual adverse effects. with recovery of depressive symptoms he will regain his libido and you boath may have better sexual relations. I hope it answers your question. I wish you both all the best.
