Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son who is 4.5 years old is suffering from Seborrheic Dermatitis commonly known as Dandruff and common causes for it can be:
-Fungal infection.
-Oily skin
-Genes.
-Change in weather or very dry weather..
-Poor hygiene conditions.
-Poor immunity etc..

It is common in both kids and adults..

As it is not resolving with regular shampooing and other home remedies I would suggest you to consult a Trichologist or Dermatologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and microscopic examination of the flakes can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..

-Your son can be advised to apply shampoos suitable for paediatric strengths containing Ketoconazole, coal tar, salicylic acid, zinc, selenium, sulfides etc..

-Keratolytic agents like Salicylic acid lotion can also be advised as it helps in easy removal of the flakes.
..
You should also keep the scalp clean and avoid moisture accumulation to prevent infection..

-Avoid application of oily and greasy hair products..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of dandruff in scalp. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like

- dry skin
- chronic inflammatory skin condition like psoriasis , fungus
- sensitivity to hair care products.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to shampoo often which contains salicylic acid or Ketoconazole. You should eat a healthy diet and get a little sun exposure.Consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment. Doctor may prescribe antifungal medicine. You should avoid styling products, hair sprays, styling gels. Sometimes stress can also cause such symptoms, so try to reduce stress.
