Suggest Treatment For Cough And Chest Infection In A Child

I got a cold from a 3 yr. old child 10 days ago - no cough, sinus or chest infection at this time but symptoms of being hot/cold, aches/sore muscles, fatigued, feeling feverish (no fever on thermometer), trouble concentrating persist and are really slowing me down - need to rest a lot. A retired nurse told me this sounds like malaise - for the past three years this has been a debilitating problem as I frequently get colds. Is there something amiss with my immune system? can that be checked, strengthened? I get plenty of sleep, don t smoke/drink and for 1 year my asthma has been perfectly controlled. What to do?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of bad cold, nasal congestion, fever and body aches along with productive cough is due to it..
As you have recurring symptoms of the same it can be most probably due to poor immunity..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
-Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine..
-Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.
-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
-Do steam inhalations..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Sip on warm water throughout the day..
-Do warm compresses over chest..
Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
