Suggest Treatment For Constipation

i cannot go to the toilet and i have to use movicol 3 times a day now as prescribe by my doctor, done blood test 3 times all negative, done ultra sound, result fine. Doctor put his finger into my anus, fine. i am waiting on colonoscopy appointment now. i am scared, i have stomach pain and sometimes narrow stool before using movicol. i am 47 years old. This is being going on for three month now. only could not go anymore anymore in the last 3 weeks unless i use laxative.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of severe constipation which could be due to many reasons such as

- Due to decreased gastric motility

- Inadequate intake of fluids and fiber rich diet

- Eating a lot of dairy products,

- Irritable bowel syndrome

- Some medications like antidepressants, acidity and certain conditions like hypothyroidism.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. You should start with drinking a lot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement, osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity.
