Suggest Treatment For Constipation

Hi, I'm a 21 yr old female and I am having trouble with my bowel movements due to constipation. I took a stool softener, a laxative and some stuff called Miralax (although this takes 24-48 hours to work). I can feel the hard stools in my rectum and sometimes they try to come out but they never do. I'm in a lot of pain and I read that if you have bowel impaction, it could lead to death. What should I do, I'm very scared? Should I wait for the Miralax to work, take a different medicine or go to the doctor? Thank you.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you can feel the stools and they do not evacuate even after having an urge to pass stools there is a possibility that you have got Faecal stone formation or Faecoliths that is nothing but very hard stone like stools....
I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Colonoscopy, Barium Swallow etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
The physician can do a digital breaking of the stools by putting the a gloved finger into the anal canal and break the stool lumps so that it cn be easily removed..
You can also be advised saline and soap enemas..
Once the bowel evacuation occurs you will be advised high fibre diet, fibre supplements, stool softeners along with drinking plenty of water and doing moderate workout..
