Suggest Treatment For Constipation In A Child

Hello Sir My kid is 2 years and 7 months old. He is suffereing from constipation since 1 year. He has been given allopathic and homeopathic treatment. but none of them have succeeded in treating the problem. He passes very hard stool after 3 to 4 days that too with the help of dulcolex suppostries 5 mg. During this 1 year of problem he was perfectly alright with the help of homeopathic treatment , but 15 days back again he started to suffer from the same problem. kindly advise.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history related to your 2 years and 7 month old child having the problems of constipation for the last 1 year, treated with allopathic and homeopathic treatment with no results, passes very hard stool after 3-4 days with the help of Dulcolax suppositories.
I would advise you the following.
The commonest cause is fissure in ano, which a child can not tell the problems with as he is so small, may just cry.
Consult a Pediatric surgeon to have a proper clinical evaluation, examination, per-rectal examination, X-ray of the abdomen to see for any fecoliths, loaded colon or gas shadows.
Saline-soap enema works the best and is the safest.
Add on a mild laxative.
watch for the foods and beverages that cause constipation and stop them altogether.
Have periodic review of the problems.
