Suggest Treatment For Constipation For A 4 Month Old Baby

Hi. My 4 months old infant has not passed stool from last 17 days. He is totally on mothers feed. He used to pass stool in 7-8 days. Last time he did potty in 12 days. But this time it's been too long. We are worried. He urinates frequently and gaining weight. Whenever he cries we give him neopeptine drops. What could be the reason he is not passing stool.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your 4 month old baby has symptoms of constipation which seems to be due to electrolyte disturbances in body.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to give child plenty of fluids. You should give child only breast feeding for at least 6-9 months. Give laxatives and stool softeners like Docusate along with fibre supplements in diet.

You should consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy, barium studies and blood test and start treatment as per diagnosis.
