Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough

I have developed a persistent chronic cough. When I wake I have coughing with mucus of color. This has been happening for awhile. I did see my doctor, he prescribed amoxicillin (sp?), but nothing changed. I have not checked back with him, but this has become a cause of concern.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello!
Chronic cough with mucus could be a sign of lower respiratory tract infection and it is important to evaluate this further if the cough has been there for more than 2 weeks. An X-ray chest would be helpful to know any changes in the airways or any source of infection. Age is important to know and other habits like smoking, tobacco chewing have to be avoided or slowly withdrawn to prevent any worsening of symptoms. It is important to finish the course of antibiotics and follow up with the doctor. Hope you feel better soon!
