Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough

I was taking 5 mg lisinopril for 3 months and it caused a cronic cough...really bad, interrupting sleep, dinners and virtually anytime of the day or night. My doctor just prescribed 25 mg losartan. How long will this take to be effective and most importantly, when will this cough go away or at a minimum dissipate? Thanks, Steve

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough which is due to upper respiratory track infection leading to bronchitis/ granular pharyngitis. As doctor prescribed you Losartan, you should take proper course of it. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Your symptoms will resolve in 1 week. if symptoms keep son persisting you should consult ENT specialist and take proper treatment. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at least for 5 days along with decongestant.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
