Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation

My mother had a partial colectomy in 2002 and now has chronic constipation and fecal impactions at least once a month. Her doctor says this is normal. Can we do anything more to prevent this? She is on a high fiber diet and stool softeners daily, also lots of fluids, plenty of exercise, fiber supplements, suppositories nightly. What else can we do to reduce these extremely painful situations? Is this to be expected due to the partial colectomy?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic constipation which can occur due to many reasons and it is extremely important to find out the exact cause. It seems to be due to inadequate fibres in diet and due to food intolerance. Need not to worry. Drink one spoon of honey in warm water daily. You should add laxatives in diet and you can apply esbogol as well around anal area opening. I would advise you to consult your physician or gastroenterologist and get examination done like complete blood count, stool examination, ultrasound scan of abdomen, and colonoscopy examination. Doctor may prescribe you traditional drugs like lactulose, milk of magnesia and cremaffin or bisacodyl tablets. You should start treatment after complete examination.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
