Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
Good morning,
Unfortunately, your cholesterol is extremely high and the doctor's recommendations to put you on statin mediation is consistent with current guidelines to decrease the risk for heart disease. I can provide general things you can do to lower your cholesterol, but following a diet such as the Total Lifestyle Change diet available on the internet might be helpful if you cannot see a dietitian. You will need to keep saturated fat very low, eliminate as much as possible trans fats, decrease high glycemic carbohydrates, add Omega3 fatty acids and Nicotinic Acid.
Exercise is essential - cardio mixed with strength training 150 minutes/wk.
You have family history of heart disease, a risk factor for you. My suggestion, I agree with your doctor and the referral to a dietitian. You can extend the quality of your life if you work with your health care team.Best Wishes.
