Greetings! Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
First, providing your age would help in the differential diagnosis. However, I am going to try to address your concern. During
panic attack and forms of anxiety, there is a spike in adrenalin and noradrenalin levels in the system, a spike which is accompanied by
rapid heart rate,
high blood pressure, hard and forceful heart beats, sometimes
dizziness, blurry vision etc. There are also times when the constant stress caused from the panic attack makes one to sense even real symptoms, and other times that certain areas are tender and sensed sore because of spasms of arteries caused by above mentioned agents. For the moment, as a cardiologist, I would recommend an EKG, to rule out any present and acute damage to the heart muscle. As for the other part, I would encourage you to discuss this problem with a
psychiatrist or a clinical
psychologist, because
generalized anxiety disorder with panic attacks is not a disease but requires treatment as long as it affects your quality of life, work or sleep. Also, discuss with your psychiatrist about a possibility of combining a sedative from the benzodiazepines class with a anti-psychotic drug, to prevent these episodes of panic attack and to stabilize the mood.
I hope I was helpful with my answer.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
