Suggest Treatment For Chapped Lips

I have really bad chapped lips and it seems to get worse in the Winter, which I hear is common. But I've been trying a lot of things such as Vaseline, Burt's Bees, a mixture of brown sugar and olive oil for exfoliation, but nothing seems to work. The one that seems to work the best is Burt's Bees, but I'm trying to stop my use of it, because I heard it's bad for you. Now, I am using Vaseline, but my problem with that, is it doesn't stop the itching like Burt's Bees did, so that makes me put it on more often hoping it stops the itch. Another thing is, I have the problem around my lips mostly so I apply the products around them. Vaseline is greasy and has a shine to it so I look like I basically put lip gloss on without a mirror. Just wondering what you would recommend for red, itchy, irritated lips.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that along with chapped lips if you have the problem of the redness, itching and irritation around the lips, it seems to be due to Perioral Dermatitis..
It can be caused due to disturbances in microbial flora over the skin, bacterial infection, nasal and topical steroids, flouridated toothpastes, harsh chemical cosmetics, poor facial hygiene, hormonal imbalances etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and advise you to apply topically ointments containing Doxycycline, Metronidazole..
You can also be advised oral intake of erythromycin..
Ointments containing Azaelic acid,Pimecrolimus etc can help..
Avoid any skin cosmetic or steroid ointments..
Avoid excess sun exposure, use gel based sunscreen lotion..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
