Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Dr. I m a patient with a vision impairment of such that I have developed cataracts in my eyes. My current eye specialist that I am consulting has, for the time beint, prescribed me RENOLEN eye drops with the intention that it may slow down the growth of the cataract. I am not satisified with her response as to this prescribed drug and would very much appreciate another doctors opinion. Will applying these eye drops really reruce the growth rate of my cataract? Thank you Mrs. Hussene
Hi Mrs.Hussene, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read your description and understand your concern. Cataract is a clouding of the lens due to denaturation and degradation of lens proteins over time, which leads to a decrease in vision. The only cure for cataract is removal of lens and its replacement by an intra-ocular lens implant through surgery. Applying medicated drops might slow down the progression of cataract, but does not totally prevent its formation or arrest the process. Kindly use the medication as has been prescribed and do the necessary follow-up. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
