Suggest Treatment For Canine Tooth Pain

Hello, I have a very sensitive canine tooth and I have no idea what I should do. It happened very suddenly after swimming. I read that it could possibly be the amount of chlorine in the pool, but according to the maintainence guy, the chlorine levels are normal. My tooth is not chipped, nor is the root exposed. It's sensitive at the pointing part and sometimes just breathing with my mouth open hurts. I visited my dentist last month, do I don't think a cavity formed over the time. Not to mention that I have exceptional dental health. Anyway, could you tell me how I can fix this. Thanks.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can very well understand your health concern..
As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from DENTINAL HYPERSENSITIVITY leading to hypersensitive tooth even when exposed to air..

It occurs commonly due to exposed dentine and opening of nerves which can occur due to erosion of the enamel layer and it can be due to chlorine as well as it can also be due to vigorous brushing leading to dentine exposure..

You should use a desensitizing toothpaste like Sensoform or thermoseal for relief..
Use a high fluoride containing toothpaste..
Avoid very hot and cold foods to prevent sensitivity..

In case if there is no improvemet you need to consult a dentist and get an x ray done to evaluate for cracked tooth or gum rescession or deep abrasion in tooth..

Hope this information helps and thanks for writing to Healthcare Magic..

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query. Understanding your concern. As per your query you have canine tooth pain which is because of exposure of pulp and nerve root endings. Swimming as such has no correlation with this except of its corrosive action. Due to which chances of enamel degradation is quiet high. I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get IOPA done to check level of pulp exposure. Filling will composite will restore your tooth. If pulp exposure is very high go for root canal therapy. Dentinal tubule sealants will help in reducing sensitivity. Use Sensodyne tooth paste. Maintain oral hygiene by brushing and flossing.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
