Hi,My name is Luís and I have varicose veins in my right leg. It looks big but it never got me in trouble. This last wednesday I hit my leg against a piece of furniture and this twisted and enlarged veins became a problem. It changed its shape,it looks bad because it has a huge bruise around and it hurts me like never before. When I try to feel it with my hand I noticed that it became hard and painful. My question is, since it didn't got better until today — friday — should I get assistance? or should I be patient and wait?Thank you.
Hi, Varicose veins usually dont lead to any problems. But if you got hurt like you did then that segment of the vein would have gotten torn and the blood would have come out and clotted forming a hematoma or blood collection which would hurt. It will take its time to resolve and will go through a series of color changes. Do not worry. Apply crepe bandage over the area or wear a Compression stocking. You can apply Heparin ointment twice daily and warm compresses for it to regress earlier. And for the varicose veins, get them treated only if you feel they are troubling you. Nowadays, we remove them with lasers and Redio-frequency ablation which does not leave a scar and is much lesser than a conventional surgery. Take care, Dr Rishi, India.
