Suggest Treatment For Bruised Sternum

I was in an accident and top and lower airbag deployed. My chest where i was hit was x-rayed and i bruised my sternum. It sometimes feels tight and hard to catch my breath. My lower leg hurts now and didnt hurt at the hospital when i was checked there. It hurts to stand and put pressure on it. Ot feels like it s in the bone. Should it be x-rayed? I m thinking of getting looked at with my family doctor.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query.
It is typical for sternum contusion that pain may persist for up to 4 weeks after the injury and it should be treated with rest, icing, nonsteroid painkillers. So you should be patient. I dont think that repeated xrays is necessary since fracture is ruked out on first visit. Even if there is a fracture, there is no specific treatment but this one that I have mentioned above. If the lef wasnt xrayed before then you can do this test, but i dont think this is necessary.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
