Suggest Treatment For Bipolar Disorder And Anxiety

I was taking 2mg. of Klonopin for high anxiety. My doctor at South Oaks Hospital Amityville NY told me of a Canadian study that benzos can cause Alzheimer s DIisease. She cut the Klonopin to 1 mg. & put me on Risperdone. I gained 5 lbs. all in my stomach from Risperdone. She has now taken off Risperdone and put me back on 2 mg Klonopin. I have to go for an EKG and blood test in order to take Geodon the new medication to control anxiety. I am Bipolar much more depression. I need a psychiatrist who is a psychopharmologist to answer.

Hello
Welcome here.
Klonopin can cause memory issues but i doubt it can cause alzheimers.
Anyhow, benzos are rarely prescribed for more than 4weeks ideally.
SSRI drugs like escitalopram are used for anxiety when needed for long term.

Fir bipolar disorder, however, SSRIs are prescribed under cover of mood stabiliser like valproate.

Hope this helps.
