What should I do? I was recently diagnosed with bv and took the antibiotics fully that was prescribed along with the yeast in case it came about. I still have bv symptoms and now I have very light vaginal spotting when I wipe or it sometimes shows up in panty liner. Can bv cause this? I take my birth control continuously and I haven't had a period in 2 months. I never usually have a problem with taking it continuously

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. - If you don't have relief after a full course of antibiotic/yeast medication, this might be due to bacterial resistance- I would suggest a vaginal swab microscopic testing & culture ,sensitivity test of the same to get specific antibiotic effective for the particular bacteria. You should take a complete course of the drug under your doctor's guidance.some times treatment of both sex partners is needed. - The spotting you have can be due to - -side effect of contraceptive you are taking, - Affection of cervix in the infection- Inflammation itself/ ulceration of cervix ( cervical erosion). Addition of anti inflammatory drugs to treatment/ cervical cauterization (sometimes)helps. Thanks.
