Hi,
1. For
Asthma I usually recommend following guidelines to my patients on the basis of “प्राणवह स्रोतस व्याधि ” [PRANVAHA SROTAS VYADHI]
A. In the acute phase, the goal of the treatment is to relieve the distress in breathing. In the later phase, steps are to be taken to eradicate the disease. If Attacks are frequent inspite of inhaled
bronchodilator combination; use
mast cell stabilizer. [talk with your attending doctor regarding this].
Asthma is a psycho somatic disorder; so tranquility of mind is very important as part of treatment (
Brahmi vati+sarpagandha Ghana vati at bed time with milk). Deep breathing exercises. They help increase lung capacity and also create awareness of the lungs and breathing process. For repeated attacks, change of weather, that is, advise holiday in a dry climate. Avoid deep fried foods. Avoid too
cold foods. Avoid sour foods (non fresh curd, sour lassi, srikhand, raw onions) .Avoid sour fruits(Citrus:lemon, orange, mosambi). Take a glass of warm water early morning, take warm drinks often like tea, coffee, soups.
For Breakfast and snacks: bread sandwiches, idli,
corn flakes, biscuits, sweet fruits like mango, papaya and dry fruits. For meals:
- roti, chapati, palak, methi, cabbage, salads (beet, carrot, cucumber).
- cooking should use minimum oils.
- Avoid heavy meals, eat small frequent meals and take early dinner.
- Avoid sleep for at least 2 hrs after meals.
Keep bowel movement regularly. Mix powdered salt [rock salt] and karpoor [camphor] in warm ghee and
massage between the shoulder blades.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
