Suggest Treatment For Anxiety Attacks

Hi. I took a .5mg Xanax around noon today because I was having an anxiety attack. I am new to this drug as I was just perscribed it about a month ago. Today is the first time I had to take it. I have dinner plans tonight, and was wondering if it is okay to have a glass of wine with dinner. Again, I took this pill nearly 6 hours ago and wont even be eating dinner for another 2 hours, but if it is unsafe for me to drink wine, I will not.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Xanax is a benzodiazepine drug and the drug is a brain depressant. Wine or alcohol is also a brain depressant so it is not advisable to take the drug with wine because of serious risk of brain depression. The half life of drug is about 6-12 hours so even after some amounts of drug is left there in your body. Please try to avoid wine with alcohol or wait for at least some hours before taking wine. Consult your psychiatrist before taking wine with Xanax.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
