Suggest Treatment For Anxiety And Depression During Pregnancy

My daughter is 28 weeks in her pregnancy and is experiencing major anxiety and depression. Having been diagnosed in her teens with this disorder yet have not taken medications in quite a few years my reading of taking these meds while pregnant are not good. What would be her best option at this time?

Hello
Welcome here.
Pregnancy is a critical period to give any drug.
But anxiety and depression, if severe, can cause major health and safety issues.

First line of treatment would be to practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation.
She can also consult a psychotherapist for cognitive therapies and counselling. If this works, she might not require drug treatment.

Another option is drug treatment. Sertraline is the safest drug in pregnancy for depression.
ECT is also a treatment option which considered to be safest treatment option in pregnancy for severe depression as this would avoid side effects of drugs.
You must consult a psychiatrist asap.
Peripartum depression can lead to post partum depression as well.

Hope this helps.
Thanks
