Suggest Treatment For Anger And Hair Loss In A Child Suffering From ADHD
Hello i have a 12 yr old son who has adhd. He is taking Adderall XR 40mg daily. He started having anger
issues and the doctor put him on intuniv. Well He started loosing his hair and we tried to take him off the intuniv and had really bad results so he added seroquel and we put him back on it with seroquel 150 mg time released. But last night he found another bald spot (which is a side effect of the intuniv) so I called to get the lower dose to wean him off of the intuniv because I can't listen to him cry about his hair. So I am back to aquare one. We have tried alot of meds since he was diagnosed at 4. The non-stimulant drugs do not work. What should I do? Is there another medicine or will the seroquel be enough? I don't know what to do and I know that my child isn't the only one. Please help.
Thanks for putting up your query on HealthCareMagic. I am sorry that your 12 year old son seems to have ADHD. Currently available treatments aim at reducing the symptoms of ADHD and improving functioning. Treatments include medication, various types of psychotherapy, education and training, or a combination of treatments. Adderall (a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) is a psychostimulant which is generally well-tolerated and effective in treating the symptoms of ADHD. Intuniv (guanfacine), Strattera (atomoxetine), atypical antidepressants like Bupropion (wellbutrin), Seroquel (Quetiapine, a short-acting atypical antipsychotic) and certain blood pressure medications like clonidine (Catapres) and guanfacine (Tenex) are non-stimulant medications are considered when stimulants have not worked or have caused intolerable side effects. Unfortunately, since many of these drugs have serious side effects, choosing the appropriate drug might be difficult. You would have to talk to your doctor who would be better able to decide from the choices.
