Suggest Treatment For Alopecia And Short Height In A Child

Hello Doc My son aged 11 years is suffering from alopecia. There are 02 patches. It was started when he was about 6 yrs old. At the age of 9 he was perfactly alright. Last year hair loss had started in june or july and this year again in summers the hair loss has again started. Doctors have had prescribed dicaris 50 for 2 days in a week and omnacortil 10 mg 2 days in a week. One doc had prescribed betnesol 1 mg daily and anti fungal capsules. Please help us what should we do now. My sons height is also small as compared to his peers. It may be due to steroids being given over a longer period

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.
Alopecia may be due to anemia, scalp infection and pediculosis capitis (head lice) commonly.
It is difficult to diagnose without actually seeing it.
It may be also fungal infection, seborrhic dermatitis (dandruff).
Better consult dermatologist to arrive at a correct diagnosis.
You may try selsen's shampoo and permethrin cream locally.
Pragmatar oint ment may help.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
Please feel free to ask any more queries if required
Take care
