Suggest Treatment For Adenoids In Children

Hi, My 3 years old kid found to have adenoids, Doctor advise is to remove the extra growth through endoscopy. Need help to understand whether it is really required to do that or is it possible to fix this with regular dosages? If it has to be removed through endoscopy, is it repossible to avoid aneasthesia by any means? Thank you in advance

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Treatment for adenoids is surgical removal of the adenoids(adenoidectomy).

Adenoid surgery is required mainly in kids presenting with symptoms like
Respiratory obstruction,
Mouth breathing,
Mal occluded denture,
Poor growth,
Failure to gain weight and thrive,
Recurrent respiratory infection,
Irritability,
Loss of concentration etc.

If your child is having the above symptoms, its advisable to go for surgical removal of the adenoids.
Consult with an ENT surgeon.
Meanwhile, you can give him a course of antibiotics like cefpodoxime,
Ibuprofen and a multivitamin supplement.
Take care
