Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Spasms And Gastritis

Hello doctor, i am 25 years old and was diagnosed with Gastritis and Duodenitis and was prescribed 'sompraz it' which I used for close to 5 months still the discomfort appeared so was prescribed 'Rabium DSR'. I have been a smoker since a long time, the smoking has been considerably decreased over the time but I am unable to kick the habit. Now I see there is a disturbance in the lower abdomen its like a spasmic feelin in the lower abdomen. I am trying really very hard to have this under control. I will also be travelling abroad very soon I am very stressed out as this illness is growing on me and even the family is worried about me. I also have a habit of drinking water before breakfast atleast one litre and after my breakfast I have an urge of passing stool again. And the job I do also very stressfull.

Hi.
Thanks for your query in HCM. I am Dr.Aliem, and I am pleased to help you.
You were diagnosed with 'gastritis and Duodenitis' -means, probably you underwent upper G.I endoscopy test. Had it been mere gastritis and duodenitis, you should have some relief by this time, since you have taken sompraz for a long period.
Your present symptom is a spasmic discomfort in lower abdomen and urge to pass stools after food intake. These symptoms, in the background of young age and job-related stress, may be due to IBS, i.e irritable bowel syndrome. This is one disease of your bowel with a strong psychological cause. But to diagnose this disease, I need to exclude other common diseases of the large bowel. For that, I need some more details about you:
1. How often do you visit rest room in a day?
2. What is the quantity (large volume or small volume) and quality (liquid/semi-solid or solid) of you stools?
3. Have you ever noticed blood in your stools or separate from stools?
4. Have you ever felt that your abdominal cramps get relieved after defecation?
5. Have you ever felt any mass protruding through your anal opening?
6. Have you lost or gained weight in the past 6 months?
Meantime, I suggest you to take a lot of fiber-rich diet (vegetables and fruits) and to minimise smoking. I strongly suggest you to quit smoking since it has unwanted effects in almost every organ in your body. You may seek professional assistance (psychiatrists) in this regard. You can take plenty of water in a day, but not a large quantity at a time.
Awaiting your reply. Dr.Aliem.
