Suggest Treatment For A Rash On The Upper Lip Region

My 10 year old son has had a rash on his upper lip for at least a month, maybe two. I had him put lotion on it regularly and even tried some medicated chap stick but it does not seem to be getting any better. At first i just figured it was dry from the cold weather but now I am not sure. This is the first time he has had this. Should I try neosporine or is this something I should take him to the doctor for?

Hi. Does he have the habit of lip licking? If its due to dryness, use a bland emollient like Emolene cream frquently. Neosporin has no role in dryness and in fact, might cause worsening as some persons are allergic to contents of neosporin. Why dont you post a photograph for identification of lesion and diagnosis? Else consult a dermatlogist. Meanwhile, continue emolene. Hope it helps.
