Suggest Treatment For A Open Wound With Liquid Discharge

I was in a car wreck on March 14. I have an open wound on my knee that is still draining. I wasn t given any instruction on how to care for it, the only thing they said was it could not be packed, cauterized or stitched. so I have been cleaning it with alcohol everyday and dressing it with this yellow antibiotic looking stuff in a foil package. I cut a square piece and put it over the wound, then I put a non stick pad on top of it and tape it down, and then a large non stick pad and then rolled gauze for securing dressing and absorption. I don t know if maybe they just didn t go into that because so many other things were wrong. I broke my sternum halfway down, I broke two vertebraes, two flanges, I have no idea what that is, two ribs, the bones around my left eye and my right jaw.to be really honest from what I have understood from reading I have actually caused it not to heal quickly enough because I was putting alcohol on it twice a day. today I started changing the dressing twice a day like I always do just without the alcohol. any suggestions? thank you so much for your help and I hope you have a blessed day.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain an unhealed wound for almost more than an year needs to be immediately taken into medical assistance as it can lead to severe infection at the wound site that can become extensive and painful and if proper treatment is not taken there can be cellulitis and can progressively become fatal..
You should consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation followed by a proper dressing and intake of strong antibiotics is strongly recommended..
You might also be advised to get blood sugar tested as a long standing unhealed wound can be due to raised blood sugar levels..
Cleaning the wound with an antiseptic solution and application of antimicrobial and steroid ointment followed by oral intake of antibiotics can help in healing the wound faster..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
