Neurologist, Surgical 's  Response
Hi Michael, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. You had severe facial and head injury long time back. Before getting nerve transplant, you should know few things

: Almost 13 years have passed, It is a long time. For nerve repair, best time to do surgery is within first year. After that, total nerve fibres are almost destroyed. There is some result (less than 20%) if surgery is done between 1 and 1.5 years. So if you want to undergo nerve transplant surgery, you must discuss it with your doctor.

: What deficits you have? Like facial weakness or facial sensory loss. In case if weakness, it is the facial nerve (7th nerve), which should be transplanted. But problem occurs due to passage of long time, the facial muscles must have atrophied. In such case, very poor results or no use. In such cases, now new treatment muscle/tendon transfer with nerve supply has emerged. In this, a normal muscle from other side or limb will be transferred over face along with nerve supply/blood supply.

: Regarding sensory loss, No treatment possible as receptors are destroyed due to death of sensory nerve (trigeminal nerve, 5th nerve).

: Also, please get your nerve conduction velocity and electromyography done to know about exact site and degree of damage.

Answer to your main question - As in public question, your location is not given, so cannot suggest any Cytologist to you. For it, you have to ask premium question or search on internet about the doctor at your place.

Hope it will help you. Thanks.
