Suggest Treatment For A Lump Appearing Under The Ear

My 8 month old son has had a low grade fever of 100.3 for the past two days, and last night we noticed he has a lump under his left ear. Nothing under right ear. He has had a cold for about 1 week and we went to the doctor on Thur. and they said he was fine, no ear infection or pneumonia; just a cold. Nurses hotline said mastoiditis, but he has not had any ear infections. Should I be concerned and take him to the doctor, we are going on a 16 hour car ride for vacation in 2 days.

Hi,Dear,
Thanks for the query to HCM.I studied your problem in depth and I understood your concerns.
You should be concerned for the lump below ear with high fever.
Hence you should attend to ER paediatrician who would treat it for
-Viral Mumps,to reduce fever and secondary complications of it-which would maintain progenicity of your son.
This advise is based on the facts from the history you give.
Hence I would advise you to check with ER Paediatrician urgently.
So dont build up wrong concepts and create more psychic complications in you which would increase risks and costs to you.
