Suggest Treatment For A Bump On The Neck

I have a bump thats about a quarter of an inch. It is on the left side of my neck right where my hairline ends. It is painful to the touch. I can t really see it to give any visual details but from what I can see it doesn t look red. (P.s. I twisted my hair and I think it may have been too much tension)

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

This seems like a furuncle which is a skin and soft tissue infection (SSTI's), the infection gaining entry through the hair follicle.
A furuncle in this region can be extremely painful and make neck movements painful.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest a week of an oral antibiotic.
My choice of an oral antibiotic would be either flucloxacillin Or cephalexin for a week.
Oral antibiotics are prescription products and therefore I suggest that you talk to your doctor for the needful.
Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily.
An OTC painkiller e.g ibuprofen twice or thrice daily will provide you symptomatic relief from pain and swelling.

Regards
