Suggest Treatment For UTI And High Level Of Serum Potassium

hi I am a 63 yr old female, my routine urine test is positive for leukocyte estrase with wbc 5-10 hpf. Urine culture test is negative for bacteria under aerobic condition after 48 hrs. I had left nephrectomy 10 yrs back due to kidney stone. All other blood and urine parameters are normal. occassionally I have serum pottassium level on higher side of borderline. I am on folitrax since past 2 years, 10 mg per week.

Hi,
Urine culture and sensitivity does not pick up every kind of bacteria, and you could empiricallybe placed on drugs like Septran twice daily for 5-7 days if you are not allergic to sulfas. You can repeat urine analysis and see if pus cells and leukocyte esterase had come down. If it gas not, you might need more extensive evaluation to ensure your remaining kidney harbours no stone or infection and is functioning well.
