Suggest Treatment For Hashimoto S Disease.

My name is Bonnie Lamb and I have Relapsing-Remitting MS with sensitivities to most drugs used. I have to take care of muscle cramps with Carisoprodol, Help with depression, but otherwise functioning. I was told recently that I have Quashimoto s ,(pardon Spelling) and trying to get that under control. I need to find out as much information as I can with both. Any ideas?

Hello Lamb
Hypothyroidism is very common in general population , to the tune of 10 %. When it is due to an autoimmune cause, its termed as Hashimotos thyroiditis.
You can take medicines if your TSH is more than 10 mIU/L. Usually we try to keep TSH between 0.5-5.
Levothyroxine 50-100 mcg is the usual medication taken.
We check TSH once in 3 months initially and once in 6 months once the dose is stabilised.
It is a simple disease and need not be worried about the same. The TSH level is not going to affect the course of your multiple sclerosis.
Hope you found it useful and please feel free to ask futher if you have any querry
