Suggest Treatment For HPV

I tested positive for HPV - not 16 or 18 though - my pap showed normal. My last 3 years tests have been normal. I had breast cancer in January and have had bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. My mother had bc twice, her sister died from Ovarian cancer and her other sister had uterine cancer but died from heart problems. My doctor wants to wait a year and then re test...I am not comfortable with that. I want a full hysterectomy. Your opinion please

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Genita warts are mainly caused by HPV type 6, 11, 16 and 18.
While HPV type 16 and 18 are associated with an increased risk of cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer; type 6 and 11 HPV is not associated with an increased risk of cervical cancer.
Pap test is the most useful test to determine viral type; it can be used to take samples for typing of viral DNA and if the samples do not reveal HPV 16 and 18, you may not be required to go for such an aggressive procedure.
Since your earlier tests have not revealed either of HPV, type 16 or type 18, therefore there is no need for such an aggressive procedure immediately.
Probably your doctor wants to be sure about the finding and to rule out even a remote possibility of the high risk HPV types by re-testing

Regards
