Suggest Treatment And Alternative Medication For Depression, Lack Of Interest

I have been on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg for almost 5 years. I have been struggling lately with some feelings of depression , lack of interest , just out of sorts. I was wondering would it be natural for the Dr to increase my mg or would he try to perscribe a different medicine. Have tried Paxil and Prosac and could not use either one.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant drug and you are taking the drug since last 5 years. The symptoms like depressed mood, lack of interest etc are persisting. In my opinion the dose of the drug you are taking is not sufficient. Usually the drug is advised to be taken in 300-450 mg per day to get therapeutic effects if used in mono therapy. So as your symptoms are persisting then you can call your doctor and can ask for increase in doses of the drug.

Apart from this other option is to change the drug. You have taken Paroxetine and Fluoxetine but couldn't use these drugs. In such case other antidepressants like Tianeptine, Mirtazapine etc can be used. These medicines help to improve the symptoms and thus can result in improvement of depression. Please discuss with your psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
